Project Center

AAFP's Center for Health Information Technology is dedicated to increasing the availability and use of low-cost, standards-based information technology among family physicians, nationally and internationally, through consultative, educational, and outreach activities. To further these goals, the Center has developed and/or participates in several innovative projects.

Government and Industry Advocacy

Federal Health-IT Incentives -- Information on federal incentives for using health-IT such as electronic health records and e-prescribing.
Government Health IT Advocacy -- The Center for Health Information Technology works closely with the AAFP's Government Relations division to monitor governmental activity on health information technology.
Physicians' Electronic Health Record Coalition (PEHRC) -- A coalition to assist physicians, particularly those in small- and medium-sized ambulatory care medical practices, to acquire and use affordable, standards-based electronic health records and other health information technology to improve quality, enhance patient safety, and increase efficiency.

Standards Development and Promotion

RFI and Preliminary Proposal for AAFP Clinical Data Repository -- The AAFP is looking for strategic partners to help realize a clinical data repository that will accept core clinical data and provide reports that analyze key quality metrics.
ASTM Continuity of Care Record (CCR) -- A project to develop an XML document standard for a summary of personal health information that clinicians can send when a patient is referred and that patients can carry with them to promote continuity, quality, and safety of care.
AQA Alliance -- An effort for determining, under the most expedient timeframe, how to most effectively and efficiently improve performance measurement, data aggregation, and reporting in the ambulatory care setting.
PDF/H Best Practices Guide -- PDF/H (PDF-Healthcare) is a portable, secure, and universal healthcare data exchange container for Personal Health Records and Electronic Health Records.
MinuteClinic CCR Project -- The Center is participating in a pilot project in which patient-authorized, secure and appropriate patient health information will be exchanged between MinuteClinic, Inc. sites and family physicians? practices.

Other Projects

Partners for Patients -- AAFP has signed agreements with leading and innovative software, hardware and network services companies. Members of the AAFP can purchase products and services at significantly reduced prices, and in some cases, obtain additional assistance at no charge from these companies.
EHR Now! -- The Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP), under contract with the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Florida (FMQAI) is offering free EHR services for members of the FAFP. This information is intended to keep you informed of the kinds of things that are happening across the country on the subject of electronic health records.
Macs for Docs? -- Choices and options with respect to the hardware, software, and peripheral devices used in office-based practices are important for success. We have created Macs for Docs?, a program that assists physicians to use Apple computers alongside PCs in their medical practices. Nothing herein should be considered as an endorsement of the products or services mentioned and described.
EHR Pilot Project -- A small-scale pilot project to study and promote the transition to paperless offices and the use of EHR systems in small- and medium-sized family practices.
